Built around the philosophy of building a strong local community through charitable involvement. Each month a charity is chosen as a beneficiary.

How it works. COTH works with a local seafood distributor and chooses a charity each month as a beneficiary and is teamed up with a local seafood product. 25% of the sale of that product is donated each month to the chosen charity. ProFish reports for example the Blue Catfish sales for the month, usually thousands of pounds, and the donation goes directly to the chosen charity for that month. We then have a fund raiser each year to raise money for the 12 chosen charities for the year. Educational food related scholarships are formed through the moneys collected as well.  In the hopes of building a family around local seafood, Chefs, restaurants, and the charitable community.

Educated Eats

Founded in 2004, Educated Eats (501(c)3) advocates for the value of employment through the restaurant and foodservice industry and is committed to creating the next generation of culinary professionals.

Frans Hagen scholarsCapturehips are designed to assist individuals who demonstrate an interest in and commitment to the restaurant industry. Scholarships are provided to both high school students pursuing a course of undergraduate culinary study, as well as to those already active in the restaurant industry who are interested in opportunities to return to school to refresh and deepen their skill set.

Past scholarship recipients have gone on to graduate at the top of their classes at some of the nation’s finest culinary schools, like the Culinary Institute of America and Johnson & Wales.


Seafood Nutrition Partnership is a 501(c)3 whose mission is to inspire a healthier America through partnerships that raise awareness about the essential nutritional benefits of eating seafood.

We address the health risks associated with low seafood consumption through partners that provide health and nutrition guidance. Through our education efforts, we aim to:

Build awareness about the essential nutritional benefits from eating seafood at least twice a week.
Help Americans gain the skills to select, order, and prepare fish and shellfish.
Inspire a healthier America by promoting a nutrient-rich diet that includes seafood.

Wish-A-Fish Foundation

The Wish-A-Fish Foundation hosts fishing events in Maryland and Virginia for special needs children and their families. Our first event was held in 2000 and included 23 families and 38 children (special needs children with serious or life-threatening illnesses, physical or developmental disabilities plus their brothers and sisters). We have grown over the years and now have 3 to 4 events per summer and are honored to host 100 – 125 families each year. Our dozens of volunteers all love to fish and enjoy sharing their passion for the outdoors with others. Many of our volunteers tell us a Wish-A-Fish event is their best fishing trip of the year!

We can’t cure an illness, make a disability vanish, or remove the daily stress a family with special needs children has to endure. We just try to make one day a little better for the whole family by taking them out on the water for some fun and fishing. The smiles and excitement on the children’s faces when they catch their first fish (and their second, and their third….) is a wonderful experience and a memory that will last for years.

National Kidney Foundation Of Maryland

The National Kidney Foundation of Maryland is dedicated to preventing kidney and urinary tract diseases, improving the health and well-being of individuals and families affected by these diseases and increasing the availability of all organs for transplantation.

NKF-MD was established in 1955 by Harriet G. Guild, M.D., a well-known Baltimore physician. Originally known as the Maryland Nephrosis Foundation, the organization became one of the original affiliates of the National Kidney Foundation (NKF) in 1964. The organization was founded with the purpose of fundraising for kidney patients who couldn’t afford the dialysis that would sustain their lives. Today, we provide emergency patient aid, kidney disease education and organ donation awareness to thousands across our service area. In 2014 we celebrate our 50th anniversary as an affiliate.

The Childrens Inn At NIH

The Children’s Inn at the National Institutes of Health is a residential “place like home” for sick children and their families. Children come from across the country and around the world to stay together with their families in The Inn’s healing environment while receiving groundbreaking medical treatments at the NIH, the world’s leading biomedical research center. While the NIH takes care of the child’s medical needs, The Inn tends to the child’s heart, soul and spirit.

In June 1990, The Children’s Inn at NIH opened its doors to pediatric patients and their families. Since then The Inn has been in continuous operation: 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year. Our doors never close. During the past 24 years, more than 12,000 seriously ill children and their families have made 50,000 visits to The Inn.

Blue Ridge Area Food Bank

The Blue Ridge Area Food Bank exists for a few very simple reasons: Food sustains life. It restores options. It provides hope.

We are an emergency food assistance agency that serves more than 120,000 people each month, a near record in the Food Bank’s history. Last year, we distributed 18 million meals to hungry families across the Blue Ridge. We expect to serve even more this year.”


The Mobile Mammography Program began in 1996 with a generous grant from the Prevent Cancer Foundation. Its goal was to make early detection of breast cancer readily available to the women of the Washington metropolitan area. Dedicated to providing area women with education and support, this self-contained mobile unit travels to corporate and community sites in the DC metropolitan area, offering one-stop screening performed in a comfortable, convenient environment. The program is committed to making this service available to every woman, regardless of her ability to pay.

The Mammovan is both handicapped- and wheelchair-accessible. The Mammovan is accredited by the American College of Radiology and is certified by the FDA to perform screening mammograms. The Mobile Mammography Program meets all the requirements of the Mammography Quality Standards Act (MQSA).

Miriam’s Kitchen

Miriam’s Kitchen is committed to ending chronic homelessness in D.C. by creating meaningful connections with chronically homeless individuals, placing them in permanent supportive housing, and ensuring they have the necessary support to remain in housing.

We advocate for permanent supportive housing as a long-term solution, while meeting short-term needs by providing healthy meals and high-quality social services to more than 4,300 chronically homeless individuals each year.

Becky's Fund

Becky’s Fund strives to address domestic violence in all sectors of our community, establish prevention-based educational programs to counter domestic violence, and collaborate with others in the community to find ways to change the behavior and thinking behind issues that cause and perpetuate domestic violence.

Brainfood believes that within each young person is a competent leader, resilient team player, creative entrepreneur, and great cook. Our programs are built around the inherent strengths, capabilities, and unique developmental needs of teens and young adults. Brainfood offers a pathway for young people to learn skills that benefit them in the kitchen and throughout their lives.

Edgewood/Brookland Family Support Collaborative

E/BFSC is one of five neighborhood-based Collaboratives in the District of Columbia, which make up the city-wide Healthy Families, Thriving Communities Collaborative network. E/BFSC has been in existence since 1996 when a partnership consisting of residents and neighborhood-based organizations received a planning grant from the D.C. Child and Family Services Agency (CFSA). The planning grant facilitated the development of a community-based collaborative effort to design and implement a neighborhood-based family support system. After a year of planning, E/BFSC opened its first Family Support Center in Brookland Manor in 1997 and began formally serving families. In 2011, E/BFSC expanded its geographic target area and now provides services to all communities in Ward 5 and Ward 6.
